Over 37 years ago, 3 young, entrepreneurially-minded CPAs went on a fishing trip to Nags Head with a large group of friends. On a dare, Bob Keiter, Bill Stephens, and Carroll Hurst spent a frigid night sleeping on the dunes. Too cold to sleep, they spent all night talking about anything and everything including the idea to start their own accounting firm. Along with Ted Gary and Bub Shreaves, they set their idea in motion and in 1978, Keiter, Stephens, and Hurst opened its doors in downtown Richmond.
