Finding the right fit at Keiter
Courtney Corallo, Business Assurance and Advisory Services Senior Manager, joined Keiter in 2012 and quickly discovered it was the perfect setting for her personal and professional development. Though she didn’t grow up anticipating a future in accounting, let alone a thriving 13-year career at Keiter, once she became part of the firm, Courtney couldn’t imagine herself anywhere else.
Originally a math major during undergrad at George Mason University, Courtney made the switch from math to accounting in her junior year after taking an advanced calculus class and realizing it was not for her. One accounting course was all it took for her to fall in love with the profession, ultimately leading her to earn a master’s degree in accounting at the University of Virginia (UVA). While many UVA students were eyeing Big Four firms, Courtney was introduced to Keiter at a campus career fair and connected immediately with the Firm’s culture. Her accounting professor encouraged her to follow that instinct rather than pursue a role that didn’t align with her lifestyle or values. She took that advice to heart, joined Keiter’s Audit team after earning her master’s in accounting at UVA, and has never looked back.
Building Expertise in Financial Services
Courtney has developed professionally into a respected leader and subject matter expert, especially within the financial services sector. Early in her career, she was assigned to Keiter’s broker-dealer niche group and quickly found her stride. “I discovered a genuine passion for the industry, and gradually developed a specialization in broker-dealers, taking on greater responsibility in building and leading teams within that area.” She has played a large role in expanding the Firm’s broker-dealer niche, with the client base growing from five broker-dealer clients in 2012 to nearly 20 today. Courtney also leads training, oversees the scheduling of audit engagements, and provides technical guidance to both team members and clients in the broker-dealer industry. Over time, her focus has expanded to investment funds, custody exams, and financial services more broadly.
Supporting Growth Through Service and Leadership
Her extensive knowledge of financial services also lends itself to her work with private foundations. As part of Keiter’s not-for-profit niche group for the past 10 years, she works closely with foundations that manage large endowments and community grantmaking, bringing her investment knowledge to the unique accounting needs of these organizations.
Today she’s confident in her ability to serve clients while mentoring audit staff and managers to grow in their own careers. She has a hands-on role in scheduling, recruiting, and training within the audit department, while also supporting colleagues as a performance coach to five team members, and a mentor to three others. Many of her closest friendships have even been formed at Keiter, with several colleagues even attending her wedding.
Courtney’s belief in supporting others also carries over to her community. In 2024, she joined the board of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, a cause close to her heart due to her family’s history with the disease. She became treasurer of the board just six months later, helping the organization further its mission to educate Virginians, fund diagnostics and screenings, and advocate for better healthcare access.
Making time for what matters most
Among her proudest contributions to Keiter is helping to start the Firm’s sabbatical program. After five years at Keiter, she wanted to take extended time off to travel internationally, but without leaving the job she loved. She worked with leadership to formalize the Firm’s policy, becoming the first person to take a sabbatical at Keiter. Her two-month journey took her all over Europe and Asia, including Spain, Italy, Vietnam, and Thailand, a transformational experience that reaffirmed her commitment to the Firm.
Courtney lives in Richmond with her husband and two young daughters. When she’s not at Keiter, you’ll likely find her at a concert enjoying live music with her family. She’s a devoted live music fan, with more than 400 concerts tracked in her own personal spreadsheet, and those are just ticketed concerts attended since the start of her spreadsheet in 2010. Whether it’s local concerts, big-name tours, or music festivals, enjoying music with her family is one of her great joys.
Even during busy season, Courtney makes time for what matters the most. She’s committed to being home for dinner with her family every night, no matter how hectic her schedule gets, and even during busy season. That work-life balance, combined with a sense of purpose, flexibility, and connection has been key to her continued commitment to Keiter.
Conclusion
With 13 years at Keiter and counting, Courtney’s career is a clear reflection of her dedication to her work, her team, and her community as well as the value of finding the right fit, both professionally and personally.
