CREW Richmond: More than a network

Since its inception in 1990, Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Richmond has established itself as the foremost business network for women in commercial real estate in Richmond. CREW Richmond is one of over 80 chapters, with a worldwide membership of over 14,000 individuals. With the Richmond chapter’s membership now exceeding 135 professionals, the organization dedicates itself to fostering opportunities for women in the industry.

One such opportunity took place this month at the 2023 leadership event, Becoming the Phoenix: Finding Opportunity in Chaos.

Elizabeth Lewis, CPA,  Keiter senior manager and the immediate past president of CREW Richmond, recently hosted this event at the Capital One campus. She stated, “We all experience chaos in our lives on a regular basis, and it comes in many forms.  For women, this can be especially relevant, as we continue to carry more of the burden and especially mental load in our home lives.”

Becoming the phoenix

The discussion topics and speakers at this event were selected to equip those in attendance with the tools and motivation to embrace chaos and find opportunities to achieve personal and professional goals. Guests were encouraged to discuss their dreams in small group discussions and engage in conversations that guided others toward pushing aside roadblocks to achieving that dream.

“What we started to notice was that an amazing number of dreams were shared. Dreams we think about, but don’t take the first step, or don’t prioritize because the chaos of life is in the way,” Elizabeth said.

After small group discussions and breakout sessions, the keynote speaker, Elatia Abate, led the group in breathing exercises, facilitated group discussions, and encouraged all to reach for goals beyond what seems possible at the present time.

Elatia’s seminar, “Regenerative Resilience™: Leading in a Future Plagued by Disruption,” focuses on how the rapid pace of technological change, especially in AI and machine learning, is transforming society and the business world. It introduces the concept of Regenerative Resilience™ as a way to thrive in an unpredictable world, encouraging leaders to embrace and shape change rather than approaching it with caution.
