New Database Helps NFPs Find Federal Funding

Launch of Federal Program Inventory

The Office of Management and Budget (“OMB”) recently issued revisions to the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (commonly referred to as the “Uniform Guidance”). One of the purposes of the revision is to simplify and make federal funding more accessible.

In an effort to make it easier for potential recipients to look for federal funding, as well as increase the transparency of federal operations and spending, the OMB launched the Federal Program Inventory (“FPI”) in February 2024. The FPI is a database providing comprehensive information about Federal programs including applicant eligibility, program objectives, and estimated and actual program spending. The FPI has a searchable tool to filter over 100 sub-categories, which can be used to build a customized list of relevant programs.

The FPI pulls data from existing government sources including SAM.gov and USASpending.gov. The OMB is working with Federal agencies to ensure listed programs are consistent with Federal assisted programs and will make updates to the FPI as necessary.
