Staff Spotlight: Paverick Nicolas

From teaching to public accounting, learning never stops

Paverick Nicolas recently joined the Keiter team as a Recruiting Coordinator. Previously a high school Spanish teacher, Paverick taught for eight years in Chesterfield County and seven years in Henrico County. Paverick found that a career in teaching did not afford him the work-life balance he needed to support his family.

“It’s hard to teach during the day and make time for your children’s doctor appointments. “I couldn’t leave on the spot if my child was sick, and I often found myself having to choose between work and family,” Paverick stated.

A career that supports a passion for learning

Paverick was referred to the Firm by a friend and Keiter employee. His friend frequently mentioned all of the learning opportunities, career paths, mentoring, and benefits the Firm provided to its team members. When the Recruiting Coordinator position became available, Paverick thought that it would be a great way to leverage some of his teaching skills and an opportunity to forge a new career path. “Keiter has definitely not disappointed me,” Paverick stated.

Although he does miss his students and teaching colleagues, Paverick is able to employ his love for teaching in different ways at Keiter. As the first person to engage with candidates, he is able to introduce them to the Firm and educate them on career opportunities unique to Keiter.

Paverick’s favorite things about his career transition are the opportunities to learn new technology and the process of recruiting experienced accounting professionals. Paverick joined Keiter during the height of the accounting recruiting season. He pivoted quickly from a teacher perspective to a learning role where he was meeting many new contacts and gaining an understanding of the ins and out of a public accounting firm. Now that recruiting season has slowed down, he has been able to build relationships with the new hires, the recruiting committee, and other stakeholders in the Firm.

At Keiter, every team member has their own customizable learning plan. Paverick’s learning opportunities are specific to his goals and role within the Firm. As a former teacher, Paverick is excited to work for an accounting firm where the learning never stops.
